Individual Counseling

Individual counseling provides you a compassionate and safe space to share, be heard, and be understood. We will together find your sense of self-acceptance and expand your horizon to love and care others around you.  You will explore where you come from, who you are and desire to be, and where your passion is leading you to go.  My role is to provide you the skills and tools to empower your inner strength, resilience, and confidence. I also enjoy working with children. I bring creative tools and techniques that allow children to work through unexpressed internal conflicts and feelings. Games, drawings, music instruments, puppet shows, and other activities are often utilized in sessions with kids.
By shifting your perspectives and focus, you will find a unique sense of gratitude towards people and situations that make your life challenging. You will be able to make sense of your life events, create/rewrite your narratives, and find inner balance and harmony within the self.

I am LGBTQ friendly. I welcome individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic background. Bilingual service is available. I am able to conduct therapy in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

Depression Treatment

Sadness will usually pass within moments, hours, or few days. Depression is a common and serious mental illness, and it may last for weeks and months at a time. Some people are genetically predisposed to depression due to their family history of mental illness, if one or more of their family members were diagnosed with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders etc. Some other people learn depressive tendencies such as thinking patterns and coping mechanisms from their close others, and those habits make them vulnerable to experience depression. And others may develop depression following a major event in life: loss, trauma, illness, infertility, pregnancy, divorce, and/or other significant life transitions.

Symptons of Depression

- Long-lasting sad, anxious, and/or numb mood
- Feelings of hopelessness
- Feeling of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
- Irritability and/or restlessness
- Loss of interest in hobbies and activities that you used to enjoy
- Lack of energy, even with enough sleep
- Difficulty falling asleep or sleeping too much
- Overeating or loss of appetite
- Problems concentrating, recalling details and making decisions
- Thoughts of suicide or suicide attempts
- Unexplained body aches or pains
Living with depression, without proper treatment, can be an exhausting and lonely experience. You may not have enough motivation for self-care: eat nutritious food, take a shower, and exercise, etc. You may feel exhausted from trying to appear stronger and better than you actually feel. You may turn to food, drug, alcohol, or sex to numb yourself so that you do not need to feel anything at all. Depression may make you feel irritable, angry, and worthless.

Treatment of Depression

In a compassionate, safe and non-judgmental space, you will be able to process your thoughts and emotions through exploring your unmet needs and unheard hurt or pain. At the beginning of your treatment, it might be uncomfortable and painful for you to talk about certain issues, events, and your feelings. However, it is important to remember that this is part of the healing process. It is challenging and uncomfortable to break your normal habits and step outside of your usual cycle of being. It takes motivation to reach out and courage to be vulnerable to share your experience. The good news is that you do not have to go on the journey alone, your therapist will hold your hands to go through the forest. With support and guidance, you will gradually be able to cultivate self-love and self-compassion, and become more integrated with your body, feelings, and thoughts. You will learn new ways to make sense of your old wounds and traumas, identify your strengths, and develop new ways to cope and make peace with challenges in life.

By shifting your perspectives and focus, you will find a unique sense of gratitude towards people and situations that make your life challenging. You will be able to make sense of your life events, create/rewrite your narratives, and find inner balance and harmony within the self.
